The paper is a commentary on the report Added Value of Macro-Regional Strategies by the European Commission based on the empirical findings and the analysis provided by the on-going project Danube River Show
and the experience as stakeholders of the EUSDR planning and implementation process since 2009. The authors intend to contribute to the efforts to build the EUSDR successfully on the principles of social and territorial cohesion, subsidiarity, transparency, participation, and multi-level government.
