This Priority Area is coordinated by Austria and Romania, with the involvement of a wide network of key players and stakeholders from the 14 countries of the Danube region.
The European Commission’s Communication establishing the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (Document COM(2010) 715, 8 Dec. 2010) features three exemplary targets for EUSDR Pillar 1 (Connecting the Danube Region) which are of relevance for EUSDR Priority Area 1a (To improve mobility and multimodality: Inland waterways). Working Groups of the 1A Priority Area are:
- WG 1 - Waterway infrastructure & management
- WG 2 - Ports & sustainable freight transport
- WG 3 - Fleet modernisation
- WG 4 - River Information Services
- WG 5 - Education & jobs

2nd Annual Progress Report by PACs 1a submitted to the European Commission
The Coordinators of the Priority Areas (PACs) of the EU Danube Region Strategy (EUSDR) are expected to submit an Annual Progress Report to the Directorate-General for Regional Policy of the European Commission on the progress made regarding the implementation of the targets and actions of the Strategy in their Priority Area.
